About the Role:
We are currently recruiting for a number of Person in Charge positions in Galway City supporting residential services for adults with intellectual disabilities, some of whom have additional physical or medical needs. Some of the roles will be suitable for persons with advanced healthcare qualification and a social care worker background. Two of the roles require medical experience so the successful candidates will likely have a nursing background.
As PIC, you will:
Take full responsibility for the running of a designated centre
Lead and support a team to deliver high-quality, person-centred care
Ensure compliance with HIQA regulations, the Health Act 2007, and Ability West’s core values
Oversee budgets, staffing, and day-to-day operations
Build strong relationships with the people we support, their families, and the wider community
One of these positions is in a state-of-the-art service.
This is more than a management role — it’s about creating a true “home from home” for those in your care.
Our residential homes are comfortable and tastefully furnished. Some of the newer properties have state of the art equipment, wide corridors, wet rooms and ceiling hoists to transfer persons supported from their bedroom to bathroom.
Is this you?
For the PIC roles requiring nursing backround, you will have:
You have a Level 7 (or higher) qualification in Nursing and be registered with NMBI (for nursing applicants)
For the PIC roles with non-nursing backround, you will have:
4 year degree in Social Care (minimum level 7 or higher), and be CORU registered
Ideally you will also have:
3+ years experience in a supervisory or management role in health or social care
A relevant management qualification
Previous experience of managing budgets, staff, and individualised support plans
An understanding of the importance of safeguarding, autonomy, and person-first language
A full clean driving licence and knowledge of transporting persons with wheelchairs

Annual Salary range: from €54,444.00 to € 63,980.00
