Our purpose

Enabling people with disabilities

Established in November 1962. Ability West has been providing services and supports to people with intellectual disability for over 55 years.

We are dedicated to enabling people with an intellectual disability and autism realise their dreams and ambitions and take their rightful place in society. We are a voluntary, not for profit, organisation, set up by parents and friends, that provides services and supports to over 540 children and adults with an intellectual disability and autism in 13 locations with 58 centres located across Galway City and County.

 Finian McGrath, Minister of State for Disability Issues, visits Ability West on 29th June 2018. The Minister met with service users who avail of services in Grangemore, their parents, staff  and with the Vice Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Breda Dolan, and  Chief Executive, Breda Crehan-Roche.  Present also were Sean Kyne, Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development, representatives from the Department of Health, HSE and Western Care.
