Research Ethics Committee

This committee was established by Ability West in 2010. The objective is to safeguard the health, welfare and rights of participants in research that involves the people that avail of our services and supports, their parents or family members, and staff members of Ability West. For any research proposal to gain ethical approval it must be of a design that minimises predictable risk to both the research participant and the researcher.

Meetings are held approximately four times per year and written proposals must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the meeting date. Please email your proposal to: Bernie.Coyne@abilitywest.ie.

Researchers will receive a written response to their proposal within one week of the meeting at which it was considered. If additional information is required, this must be submitted within two weeks.
