Update March 4th 2018

At this stage the worst of the recent bad weather would appear to be over and the National Weather Warning for Galway City and County has been downgraded to Yellow. On this basis all our transport services will be operational from tomorrow (Monday) morning and this will result in a return to normal services being delivered in all our locations.

Once again we gratefully acknowledge the sterling efforts made by our staff, volunteers, families, host families and contractors to ensure the continued delivery of our essential services during the storms. Thank you all.

Update March 2nd 2018

Despite the very challenging weather that we are currently experiencing, Ability West staff have been making significant efforts to ensure the continued delivery of our essential services. Many have gone above and beyond the call of duty, for that we extend our deep gratitude and admiration.

Whilst the recommendation for people to remain indoors has been lifted, Ability West still urge all staff, service users and families to exercise extreme caution. The Status Red weather alert for snow-ice is still in place until 6pm this evening, as issued by Met Eireann this morning.

The Critical Incident Response Team will continue to monitor and be guided by such weather alerts and we will provide updates accordingly.

March 1st 2018

Please be advised that due to the Status Red alert for the entire country, Ability West has taken the decision to cancel all transport routes for Thursday and Friday, March 1st-2nd.

Due to the essential services that we deliver, we ask staff to make every effort to attend work where it is safe to do so. Local arrangements will be made with regards to staff from Day Services being redeployed to respite or residential homes.

We are guided by the National Weather Alert system from Met Eireann and will follow up on the status of our services as updates arise.

Our sincere thanks to service users, staff and families for their ongoing assistance and cooperation.

Please avoid travelling unless it is an absolute emergency or absolutely necessary. Stay indoors and stay safe.
